AViiON AV5500

When I embarked on this hobby I made a pact with myself to stick to the ‘proprietary‘ DG CPU designs those being the native Nova/Eclipse and MV machines, however I recently stumbled across an Motorola 88110 based Data General AViiON server and intrigue took hold especially when the owner confirmed that it had a full set of documentation and software.

Other than an initial inspection and investigation/backup of the M48T08 (battery backed SRAM I found hiding behind the secondary SCSI controller) this project is on hold whilst I finish some earlier projects.

…………………more on this in 2020!

  1. I am writing a book on Data General machines as a part of my Historical Computing Machines series published by Cambridge Scholars Publishin, Newcastle-on-Tyne.

Any information that you can share on DG machines would be greatly appreciated.
